PORK
Bedfordshire Pork From Bedfordia Farm, North Bedford
At Bedfordia two traditional English pig breeds, the Large White and Landrace sows
are crossed with a Hampshire or Pietrain sire
to create lean, quality meat with plenty of flavour.
The pigs are all bred, grown and reared under very strictly controlled welfare conditions,
independently audited by and marketed under the Assured British Pigs (ABP) banner.
The costs of adhering to this system are considerable and make British pork
significantly more welfare friendly than much imported pig meat.

INFORMATION
Carbon Foot Print 30% Less Than Standard
As an added extra to their high welfare standard, pigs' slurry from the pig finishing unit is pumped through to the BIOGEN anaerobic digestion plant where it is combined with food-chain-waste to produce renewable energy and bio-fertiliser.
Methane production from the pigs is minimised by collecting the gas to produce electricity.
Once the slurry and food waste has gone through the digestion and sterilisation process we are left with a liquid enhanced crop fertiliser.
This bio fertiliser applied to growing crops of wheat and oilseed rape replaces fossil fuel derived fertiliser.
The green house gas savings from using slurry in the anaerobic digester and subsequent fertiliser produced
means our pigs have a carbon foot print 30% less than standard production.
So Bedfordia Pork is not only super tasty but also committed to reducing its carbon foot print!!
